‘The League’ Previews Timothy Olyphant as ‘White Sushi Chef’

A new preview for FX’s The League is allowing Timothy Olyphant to show off his culinary skills—though Ruxin (Nick Kroll) and Kevin (Stephen Rannazzisi) don’t seem particularly impressed.

Olyphant (Justified) guest stars as a sushi chef from Omaha, Neb., who inexplicably speaks with a Japanese accent. Ruxin and Kevin call him out on this.

“It’s because I’m white,” he says when confronted. “Arigato…racist?”

The creative talent behind The League hinted earlier this month there’d be some tension between Olyphant’s character and the rest of the gang on the episode, “The Freeze Out.”

“Timothy Olyphant as the white sushi chef is great,” League co-creator Jackie Marcus Schaffer told THR earlier this month. “Super funny,” added her husband and fellow co-creator, Jeff Shaffer.

The League airs next Thursday at 10:30 p.m. on FX. Watch the video below (unfortunately the video is only available within the United States).

Timothy Olyphant Plays for ‘The League’

Timothy Olyphant trades guns for Ginsu in an Oct. 25 guest stint as a sushi chef on the FX sitcom The League. “These guys [including Stephen Rannazzisi, far right] are uncomfortable getting raw fish from a white dude,” Olyphant explains, “and comedy ensues.” After three seasons playing a U.S. marshal on Justified, Olyphant may be more comfortable with conflict than comedy, but he says, “I see Justified as a comedy, so I feel like we’re in the [same] ballpark.”
